New Butcher Shop in Tanunda

1 min read

Keeping traditional Barossan recipes alive and offering artisan smallgoods, synonymous with our region’s flavours, are two distinct features of Tanunda Traditional Smallgoods & Butchery.

While the business may be new, owner and qualified smallgoods maker Peter Werner and his team have a wealth of experience and knowledge, in what has been a hand-made tradition.

“We are very passionate about bringing back many traditional Barossan recipes that are gradually disappearing over time and keeping to the art of traditional methods of wood smoking products,” Peter said.

“Many butcher shops have closed down over the years and customers are losing that direct contact with the butcher, which is quite sad.

“We aim to keep the role of the butcher and the traditional German smallgoods alive.”

Assisting Peter, Kathi and sons Ben and Sam with that goal, is Chris McKinnon, a qualified butcher who previously worked for Linkes Butchery and is an industry veteran.

In terms of what’s on offer, customers are sure to be pleased with the variety.

“We have started with a range of fresh meats – a variety of cuts of beef, pork, lamb, chicken, sausages, hamburgers and traditional wood smoked bacon,” Peter explained.

“We will soon be adding smallgoods and customers are welcome to pop in or call.”

While the range is already extensive, Peter said there are plans to grow it even further.

“We are aiming to supply locally produced fresh meat at a high quality and sensible price for the community and build a good clientele for the traditional Smoked Mettwurst, Biersticks Bacon, Beef Jerky, Pepperoni. We plan to add more products over time.

“Sharing our knowledge as a team will bring many product favourites to our customers as we grow.”

We aim to source all our meats from local Farmers, the ultimate focus of this family-run business is to supply the local community with quality, artisanal handmade products.
