Prepare to Scare-crow

1 min read

The Barossa Vintage Festival would not be the same without the much-loved regional scarecrow displays - whether they're part of the formal competition or just to boost community spirit in the lead up to the event.

Not surprisingly, constructing scarecrows - big or small - is not something everyone knows how to do, so thankfully there are workshops available for the task.

February 1 saw Scarecrow Registrations Open, with two workshops available before the closing date of March 10 - so if you'd like to test drive your skills before you commit to the official competition, there are two opportunities to learn.

On February 22, the Kapunda Scarecrow making workshop will be hosted by Light Regional Council at Kapunda Town Square, while March 1 will see a Barossa Co-op Scarecrow Making Workshop, hosted by Barossa Co-op at Barossa Square.

Co-Director of Barossa Vintage Festival 2025, Rebecca Reynolds, is among those looking forward to seeing the upcoming scarecrow creativity for 2025.

"We are so excited to see what scarecrow creations appear across the region this Vintage Festival," Rebecca said.

"We are delighted that there are two scarecrow workshops bookable on our website, one at Kapunda on Feb 22 organised by Light Regional Council and one on March 1 organised by the Barossa Co-op.The committee has been working on awards, categories and a revamped map.

"Entries for our colouring competition have also been coming in strongly", Rebecca added.

From first time creators through to old hands and experts at scarecrow construction, the creativity of Barossans never ceases to amaze and everyone in the community will have their eyes peeled from April 1 when all the scarecrows are up and on display.

The winners will be announced at Great Vintage Picnic Lyndoch on April 27 and The Leader is proud to be a sponsor of this iconic Scarecrow competition.
