Italian Family Festa at Calabria Wines

For a taste of all things Italian, Calabria Family Wines will be hosting the bustling and colourful Barossa Italian Festa, on Friday April 21 and Saturday April 22, from 12.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.

With Calabria’s Pinocchio scarecrow greeting you at the entrance, visitors will walk onto the grounds and spot a huge marquee with plenty of activities to keep the whole family happy.

This is a popular event not to be missed, with over 300 people in attendance at the last celebration.

There will be lots of free kids’ activities, toys and games, Bocce and mini golf, along with bean bag chill zones.

Foodies will love the Italian produce available to purchase, including buckets of tomatoes to make your own homemade passata, pizza dough and bases, and special treats for the adults including Tawny gelato from Beans & Cream, Tanunda (made from Calabria Tawny), as well as Bellini cocktails made with Calabria Prosecco and peach syrup, wine and local beer.

There will also be plenty of food trucks on hand.

And to add to the atmosphere, there will be live music from local musician Cloudy Davey, and lots of festival ambiance with piano accordion player, Lino Cardone, walking around, serenading the crowd.

Scarecrows

Festival favourite, and not all so scary, is the Scarecrow Scatter trail, a fun activity to discover with the whole family.

Get up close and personal with these weird and wonderful characters, as you cruise past the cellar doors, shopfronts and front yards of the Barossa region (see Page 21 for more information).

The Vintage Festival Parade – a treasured tradition since 1948, the Parade is one of the most exciting events to attend, along with thousands of other locals and visitors who line the route with their picnics and eager smiles (see Page 23).

Chateau Fest – relax on the manicured lawns of the historic Chateau Tanunda sunken garden for an afternoon of live music from the Swinging Willies (a Willie Nelson tribute band), lawn games for kids, face painting, and plenty of food trucks on Saturday April 22 from 11.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
