Work to start on region’s newest service station outlet

1 min read

Work will commence in December on the Sturt Highway Service Centre in Nuriootpa, paving the way for two fast food outlets and a SA owned service station brand.

Family owned South Australian business,  X Convenience will open a service station and car wash on the site and anticipate to be trading in August.

They have been involved with the design of this section of the development and are excited about what this brings to the region.

Ms Rachel Stewart, state manager said, “The advantages to the region will be increased competition with a Adelaide owned independent providing service to the town.

“We will be running our coffee station brand in conjunction with a full roadhouse menu.”

Joining X Convenience in the $15 million  development are fast food restaurants, KFC and McDonald’s.

McDonald’s will employ around 100 locals from the region across a mix of fulltime, part-time and casual roles including crew, management, baristas and maintenance.

Further to the employment opportunities at the restaurant, approximately 100 tradespeople will also be engaged to help build the store.

The development proposes a rest and revive truck space, an electric car charging station and to be RV friendly.

According to a report, the fuel reselling and retail facility, when fully operational, will support in the order of 220 full time equivalent jobs and generate $17.9 million gross state product in the Barossa region.

A report prepared in 2018 acknowledged   a number of benefits for the development which included improved transport logistics and industry efficiencies, regional tourism and road safety and emergency services.
