Work on the Nuriootpa Dog Park began last week, with contractors installing fences at the Penrice Road location to enclose an area of more than 2,500 square metres opposite Nuriootpa High School Oval.
Expected to be open by the middle of November, the park is one of two to be built in The Barossa Council area made possible through State Government grant funding of $100,000, Council’s contribution of $17,000 for construction and a further $5,000 a year in maintenance.
Father of two, Andrew Hili and his nine year old miniature daschund, “Frankie” are keen to use the Nuriootpa park once opened.
“Frankie will be able to socialise with other dogs in a more secure environment...it feels safer in here,” he told The Leader.
The Angaston based plumber has also been contracted by Council to install a special water bubbler at the park in coming weeks.
“It’s like a drinking fountain with a tap and a bowl at the bottom,” said Andrew.
“People can drink out of it and then you turn the tap and it fills the bowl up for your dog.”
Fellow miniature daschund owner, James Fechner, of Nuriootpa said the new dog park would allow his nine month old puppy to burn off excess energy and enjoy play dates with fellow four-legged colleagues.
“We’ll use it...‘Brian’ is looking forward to meeting some new friends!” he laughed.
