We can prevent suicide says Dr Fleming

1 min read

Suicide is a really horrible thing and while we can’t stop all of them from occurring we can prevent them claims an expert in the field, Dr. Graham Fleming when he was guest speaker at The Lone Pine Agricultural Bureau Social held at Langmeil Centre, Tanunda on Friday night.

Dr Fleming together with those present had earlier on been officially welcomed by Mr Grant Dahlitz, president.

In his address, Dr Fleming told of how he first discovered suicide with a 15 year old boy in Tumby Bay.This was followed by 13 more suicides in the region within the next 10 years.

With such a high death rate occurring, Dr Fleming took it upon himself to significantly reduce the number of suicides in his area at the time.

He explained that suicide happens when there is a situation of absolute despair and hopelessness. The victim often has a mistaken belief that suicide is their only way out.
