Volunteering to make residents happy

1 min read

Ms Margaret Jasper has been volunteering for nine years at Tanunda Lutheran Home and has loved every minute.

She began working dressing up in different scenes and outfits to entertain the residents at the home. Since then she has been volunteering four days a week doing a range of activities.

On Monday afternoon she calls the bingo which the residents love playing. Tuesday mornings she takes residents to and from exercises before scoring and helping to run the carpet bowling in the afternoon.

Wednesday afternoons change depending what is on for the residents, but is usually some form of entertainment.

On Friday afternoons Margaret is back doing what she loves, running the bingo with around 30 residents.

“We all have a lovely time together. When I call bingo each time the residents are ready to choose a prize and show how happy they are,” said Margaret.

Margaret explained that she has always loved her volunteer work and always has a wonderful time making the residents happy.

She added that she knows they are happy for her to help them with whatever they do.

“The residents get so rapt and happy in everything they are involved in. I have received so many written compliments from certain staff over time which I value dearly,” said Margaret.

“I love my volunteer work dearly and hope I can do so for many times ahead. I thank my volunteer leader, Tanya for asking me to tell about my volunteer work.”
