Seniors from the Barossa and many from Barossa Village attended the free high tea dance event on September 15 at the Nuriootpa Soldiers’ Memorial Hall.
The midday fun consisted of music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, whilst tea, coffee and appetising finger food was presented in regular high tea fashion.
Smiles filled the room, with the hall filled to the brim with attendees, all happy to be there getting involved in the fun.
This event gave the elderly a chance to leave their residencies and meet other people, have fun dancing and listen to music from their era.
The Barossa Valley Rockers, rockabilly dancing enthusiasts, were also invited to the event, encouraging everyone to get on the dance floor.
“We were very pleased to be invited along to the high tea dance,” said Mignon Sich, member of the Valley Rockers.
“Most of us are seniors too and we are pleased for any opportunity to show how dancing and music can keep you moving.
“We always have so much fun dancing and we love to encourage others to have a go, no matter what age.
“It’s obvious music is a great motivator for movement and that was evident on the dance floor all day.”
There were prizes given away on the day too, with Best Dressed Woman won by Dianne Craig.
Barossa Village parterned with The Barossa Council to make this exciting social event for older people, while also giving the opportunity to engage in important health information.
Health organisations such as Arthritis SA, the Cancer Council, Aged Rights Advocacy Services (ARAS) and the local Advance Care Directive Reference Group were in attendance to provide short presentations giving ...
