Beautiful weather and an excellent line up of entertainment had people turning up in their hundreds for the 122nd Eudunda Show over the weekend.
Nearly 1,500 people poured through the gates, the highest numbers seen for a while according to Show Secretary, Melinda Schutz.
“I asked people what their highlight was and everyone says a different thing,” she said.
“The Australian Army Band was definitely popular, along with Connor Hogan’s motorcycle demonstrations and the speed shearing.”
It wasn’t only attendance breaking records, the speed shearing attracted 32 competitors, double the number the show usually gets.
Entries were up in categories across the board, with Melinda describing it as “the best ever”.
“It just makes all the hard work across the whole year worth it,” she said.
“Everything just excelled and people were over the moon. The perfect weather brought people out, and the free entertainment, it just makes everyone happy.”
The new Merino Ewe Hoggett competiton was a success, with 20 pens of three being entered, securing its place in future shows.
“We’ll build on that and add more to it too,” said Melinda.
The show’s theme of ‘The Year of the Pig’ went down well with the crowd, quite literally; the pig on the spit sold out in an hour and a half.
Guess the weight of the pig was also a very popular activity, with the lucky winner guessing within 0.1g of the correct weight of 96.6kg.
With the Eudunda Show proving itself to once again be an event to keep on the calendar, the committee are looking forward to making it bigger and better next year and beyond.
