Nicole Baker from Nuriootpa knows better than most how important the Red Cross can be in people’s lives.
The mum of three young boys is even more thankful of the life she is able to lead today, after suffering major injuries in a car crash ten years ago.
When she was just 16, Nicole was a passenger in a car that crashed into a stobie pole at Kapunda, killing the driver.
She received a lifesaving blood donation after the crash that snapped her femur and smashed in the side of her face.
She spent about two weeks in a coma in the Royal Adelaide Hospital, and was in hospital for about six weeks in total.
The next four years were spent going in and out of hospital for operations and treatment.
