Get your Block fix at the Farmers Market

3 min read

Calling all Blockheads!

Barossa Volkswagen would like to invite fans of Channel Nine’s The Block to an exclusive meet and greet with 2019 Block contestants, Matt and El’ise at the Barossa Farmers Market Saturday at 10.30 a.m.

This exciting opportunity is thanks to Volkswagen Group Australia, who continued their sponsorship of The Block this year by awarding $10,000 to spend on renovations to the Room Reveal winners each week.

As part of the sponsorship, Volkswagen Group Australia also offered four dealers the opportunity to host two of the contestants at their respective dealership.

Dealers had to submit a proposal to vie for a chance to host the Blockheads.

“One of Barossa Volkswagen’s company trademarks is to be a pillar of the local community,” said Dealer Principal, Mr Shane Beaney.

“With this at the forefront of our planning, we proposed a Barossa Block party at the Volkswagen dealership in Tanunda.”

The Barossa team was lucky enough to be selected out of more than 100 dealerships across Australia.

At first the idea was to hold the meet and greet at the dealership, with local food vendors and wineries in attendance to give the community the opportunity to sample local produce, get up close with the contestants, and view the latest range of Volkswagen commercial and passenger vehicles all in the one place.

But after floating the idea with previous owner, Tim Lynas, Shane and the team made a change of plans.

“Tim’s response was, why attempt to create a farmers market atmosphere when you can actually hold the event at Barossa Farmers Market?” said Shane.

“It was a stroke of genius! I met with Ellie and Elaine from Barossa Farmers Market the very next day and the date was set.”

As part of the winning proposal, two lucky employees from Barossa Auto Group were chosen to fly over to St Kilda, view the completed projects at the former Oslo Hotel site and choose which contestants the Barossa dealership would host.

The employees, who are under strict confidentiality agreements, had the opportunity to get to know all the current Blockheads over a few wines.

“El’ise and Matt’s down to earth nature and love of wine stood out to our representatives,” said Shane.

“Barossa Volkswagen is very excited to show Matt and El’ise what the Barossa Valley has to offer.”

The Barossa already has a proud association with The Block with Nuriootpa locals, Spence and Kerrie having competed in the competition last year.

The couple were so impressed the V6 Amarok they drove while on The Block that they purchased one from Barossa Volkswagen after their season finished.

Attendees to the Farmers Market event will also have the opportunity to test drive the brand new V6 Amarok, which will be on display along with the Tiguan Highline and Touareg Launch Edition. There will be some exclusive offers for those that purchase on the day.

Market stall holders will be in attendance, music will be performed by local musicians and a free raffle will be held, the winners of which will have the opportunity to take a drive up Menglers Hill for some great photo opportunities with Matt and El’ise.

“This is an event unlike anything that has been held in the Barossa recently,” said Shane.

“We look forward to seeing you all there!”
