Thirty years ago Barossa Valley Toyota opened its doors at 33 Murray Street, Tanunda bringing the Toyota brand back to the Barossa.
It was an exciting and daunting prospect at the time for Dealer Principal, Mr Gordon Alderslade and his wife Ann.
Operating out of a tiny rented office and tin shed, it was the beginning of an exciting new venture, a new kid in town!
With sales taking off and growing support from loyal customers it wasn’t long before their starting team of five staff swelled to 10.
From humble beginnings Barossa Valley Toyota has grown to the business it is today employing 25 staff at bigger and better premises at 175 Murray Street, Tanunda.
Dealer Principal, Mr Gordon Alderslade is grateful for the support customers have shown to the Toyota product over the years.
From long standing Landcruiser customers through to staunch Hilux owners, Toyotas have continued to provide a quality and value customers can rely on.
“Barossa Valley Toyota’s success is also a testament to our dedicated staff, many of whom have been with us for the majority of their working life,” said Gordon.
‘‘Our BVT team is also our work family and it is heartening to know they embrace the Toyota brand and believe in it as much as we do.”
Getting to this stage has not been an easy process and it has meant chipping away at what has traditionally been a strong Ford and Holden area.
Business Manager, Mrs Ann Alderslade said, “It is extremely satisfying when driving around the Barossa to observe the number of Toyotas on the road.
“In the early days we were a minority and it is very rewarding to see the growth over the years reinforcing Toyota as market leaders in the Barossa.”
It’s an achievement Gordon and wife, Ann are proud to have reached and reflect on a business that continues to grow.
Both Gordon and Ann acknowledge the relationships they have forged with business partners over their 30 years. These include Toyota Motor Company Australia, Toyota Financial Services and Castrol Australia.
“A lot has changed from when I first started selling cars, in the early days vehicles were much simpler, today there is so much technology and safety packed into each model in the Toyota range it’s quite a challenge to stay ahead of the game,” said Gordon.
“Cars are getting smarter and we need to keep up with these changes”.
