Volunteers needed for Christmas cheer

2 min read

As of today, there are only 119 more sleeps until Father Christmas completes his annual present delivery across the globe.

However, this means there are even less sleeps to the Eudunda Christmas Party, and the committee is on the look out for more hands to help ready the town for festivities.

Speaking with The Leader, treasurer and media coordinator, Julie Kowald, shared some insight into the kinds of jobs that volunteers can take part in.

While the committee members handle a lot of the administrative work and bookings, additional volunteers are required to tackle jobs that happen closer to the event.

Julie said that “especially on the day, there’s a lot of things to do, there’s a bit of crowd control, there’s tables and chairs that need to be brought in and out, there’s help packing down, all sorts of things.”

In addition to the parade, the Christmas Party committee also decorates the towns of Robertstown and Point Pass, as well as Eudunda.

Julie added that while there is plenty of behind-the-scenes work, if being front and centre is more your thing, you will definitely find a place as part of the parade.

“If you’ve got a Christmas costume, or something bright and festive, come along and walk along with the parade, be part of it that way,” Julie said.

Along with getting to put together an excellent celebration for the town, Julie says that being involved is also a great way to get to know more people in the community.

“I’d like to extend the invitation out to volunteers, especially new people who have come to the town because it’s a great way to meet some of the locals and get to start making new friends as well,” Julie said.

While they try to make the party bigger and better each year, that can only come with many hands to make light work.

“The town is for everybody, and the party’s for everybody, so it shouldn’t just fall into the hands of a few people,” Julie said.

Invitations have also been sent to the most distinguished of guests, as Julie shared that “Father Christmas and Mrs Clause will be there again.”
