On Sunday January 12, 2025 Eudunda Bowling Club celebrated its Centenary, a wonderful milestone for the club.
The celebration began with President Mally Schutz welcoming all and reflecting on the pioneers and passionate individuals who created a vision for the club 100 years ago.
Master of Ceremonies for the day was Andrew Pfitzner, wearing a white shirt, tie, blazer and cream button-up long trousers (original bowls' uniform from 100 years ago).
Andrew introduced guest speakers Brett Herbert, Bowls Australia Club Support Manager; Member for Frome, Penny Pratt MP; Mayor Bill Gebhardt, The Regional Council of Goyder, and Brian Grant, President Barossa & Light Bowling Association.
This was followed by the Club history read by Greg Post, Bob Leditschke, Judy Milde and Mally Schutz.
President of the Centenary Committee Mike Rees, spoke of the journey by the committee in researching the history, and planning for the day.
Greg Post's research at the Eudunda Heritage Gallery culminated in the printing of a Centenary Booklet which was available for sale at the celebration.
An exhibition match of the old (bowls and uniforms) versus the new provided further entertainment, which delighted the crowd of about 85 people in attendance.
Special guests (and former bowlers) were Fran Pettigrew and Joyce Baenisch, who enjoyed reminiscing with old friends during the afternoon.
A display of memorabilia, on loan from the Eudunda Heritage Gallery plus old and new photos added much interest to the afternoon.
Patron Bob Leditschke and Patroness Betty Marshall cut the Centenary cake, then in recognition of 100 years of the Eudunda Bowling Club, the MC proposed a toast to the club, and all sang "Happy birthday".
Afternoon tea complete with plenty of camaraderie completed a very successful celebration.
