Guest speakers from the RAA, Stroke Foundation and Dementia Australia were among an insightful line-up of speakers at Member for Schubert, Ashton Hurn’s inaugural Barossa Seniors Forum on August 20.
Attracting more than 200 people, the forum was held at the Nuriootpa Soldiers Memorial Hall.
Mrs Hurn said the free forum aimed to bring together locals to hear from guest speakers with useful advice and insights on topics relevant to older members of our community.
“Often people don’t know where to go when they want certain information, and the forum was a great way to proactively connect people with helpful advice on a range of topics," Mrs Hurn said.
“Anything we can do to help people access information and provide them with an opportunity to ask questions about services is a useful step - and I look forward to hosting more in the future.”
Topics covered included road safety, stroke prevention and understanding dementia.
Although the forum was free there was an option to give a gold coin donation, a total of $369.25 was collected which will go to supporting well known local charity - Barossa Area Fundraisers for Cancer.
