Walking more than 3,000km alone through the South Australian wilderness might not be everyone’s idea of a good time, but for 42-year-old Emmanuell Aroney from Melbourne, it is the ideal way to spend several months of a ‘gap’ year between military and civilian employment.

He’s walking the Heysen Trail and then even further, to at least Alice Spri
