Mirror balls and dancing by the decade

Ball gowns have been swapped for mirror balls for this year’s big Saturday night event, with Club Vintage sweeping into the Tanunda Show Hall for an evening of retro vibes and good times.

“It’s harking back to the tradition of having something in the show hall… so we’re having a big party in the show hall on the Saturday night,” explained Rebecca Reynolds, Vintage Festival Co-Director.

“We’ve got a DJ, and the idea is it’s a dance through the decades… We’re dancing, but we’re probably drinking through the decades as well –  it is an over 18s event, I should just mention there!”

While the traditional Vintage Festival Ball has been a beloved event, Rebecca and Co-Director, Maz McGann engaged with the Festival’s Young Ambassadors to gain insight into how to create a more inclusive evening event for something different this year.

“There’s lots of young people who are keen to do something, and often see the Festival as being for older people!” laughed Maz. “So we were keen to introduce something that they might enjoy, that was not only affordable… (but) a bit easier to come with your mates and enjoy yourself...”

Maz and Rebecca explained that as well as a DJ, there will be local entertainment adding to the festivities.

“For each hour there will be an activation of some sort that celebrates some of the hilarious and lovely things about each of those decades,” said Maz. We’ll start with the 70s of course, then we’ll have an hour of 80s, an hour of 90s, and an hour of 2000s.”

As for sustenance, there will be food truck fare, and drinks by Rehn Bier, Jacob’s Creek, and Seppeltsfield Road Distillers (SRD), where retro cocktails will most certainly be on the menu!

“SRD have been experimenting with some of that, they’ve been really fun in coming up with something that fits those decades,” said Maz.  It wouldn’t be a ‘dancing through the decades’ event without some costume elements, and while attendees are welcome to dress up, it’s not required.

"...I quite like the idea of a dance to the 70s, a bit of disco dancing,” added Rebecca. "I’ve been to a couple (of events like this) and you just see people react to the music in that sort of way, and I just think that’s really fun. I think it will be a great night.”
