People of all ages are taking up the challenge of the World’s Greatest Shave, including an Angaston woman, 69 and Freeling girl, 10.
The Barossa Council Mayor, Mr Brian Hurn will have hair clippers in hand to shave the head of Angaston’s Isobel Halsey on March 16 at the Barossa Mall, Nuriootpa.
Mrs Halsey has been close to a couple of brushes with cancer, including two pre cancerous lumps in her breast.
She also has a history of cancer in her family and is working hard to contribute to the fight against leukaemia.
“I have tunnel vision once I start to do something and this is no different,” Mrs Halsey said.
Mrs Halsey – who has been wheelchair-bound since 2004 because of spinal cord multiple sclerosis – will raise funds through a trip from the Angaston Railway Station to Foodland at Nuriootpa and encouraged people to walk alongside her.
The mother of five, grandmother of eight and new great-grandmother said she hates seeing children suffering from the disease.
“I’d like to think future generations will be helped with people raising as much money as possible for scientists to research,” she said.
Mrs Halsey has put donation boxes at Miles’ Newsagency and Deli and Schulz Butchers at Angaston, as well as Bank SA, Pairman Property Management and Foodland at Nuriootpa.
