2020 BL&G netball season cancelled

1 min read

Statement from Barossa Light & Gawler Netball Association:

The last few weeks there has been much discussion around the viability of Netball within South Australia. On May 9, Netball SA advised that the SA Government approved a structured return-to training plan for community netball and provided a framework for resumption of netball in the Covid-19 environment.

Club President’s meet last week and were informed of the stringent guidelines with the increase workload of volunteers to adhere to involving hygiene practices and infection control. Also discussed was the financial impact it would have on Clubs with the potential of no spectators.

Clubs were asked to vote on whether they wanted to continue with a reduced season under those guidelines, with a majority decision by the Board received.

It is for these reasons the Barossa Light & Gawler Netball Association announced Wednesday night that the 2020 season will not be going ahead. Whilst people may be disappointed about this decision the safety of all our netball communities including players, coaches and spectators is our number one priority.

During this difficult time, we encourage everyone to stay active at home, practise safe social distancing, continue hygiene practices, and enjoy this extra time with family and friends.

We will return in 2021 for a better season.
