Angaston’s Dru Thompson may only be 18 but is proving to be in high demand, being offered three international University scholarships for soccer over the past year.
Last week she committed to the University of Northwestern Ohio and will make the move overseas at the end of July.
“When the Ohio one came through it was just such a great opportunity and I knew I really wanted this one. The coach is delighted to have me which is amazing,” said Dru.
“She’s really nice and she’s female which is great for me. I feel women in soccer is the best thing ever and so empowering. Soccer over there is just such a big thing compared to here.”
Dru, who has been playing soccer since she was 11, is most looking forward to getting more experience and being surrounded by people who love the sport like she does.
Whilst at the University she will also be studying a Bachelor of Sports Management.
“I’m so glad I’ve got the opportunity to even do this. I’ve worked so hard to get where I am and it’s paid off now. I’ve already packed up my room and I’m ready to go,” laughed Dru.
