Room to move

Relocating Filmer Delivery from its Moppa Road location to a larger premise on the Sturt Highway, Nuriootpa was a mighty task for Sue and Gary Curtis.

It may not seem like much considering it is less than five kilometres up the Sturt Highway but it was a significant move for the couple and the business they have owned for nearly three years.

“When we bought the business it was under the pretence that we would have to move,” said Gary.

“It was a transport company operating from a farm not a farm operating from a transport company.”

Sue had been working for Filmer Delivery for more than 10 years and with Gary seeking a change of pace from his former work, the couple purchased the operations from Don Filmer, who had started Filmer Delivery in the early 80’s.

It could be said that Sue loved her job so much, she bought the business.

“We had outgrown where we were for my vision for growth,” said Gary.

“We were always trying to load/unload freight in all weather conditions without compromising the freight. Now we have a large undercover area the only problem we have now is a bit of gypsum dust.”

Filmer Delivery is now operating from 3009 Sturt Highway, Nuriootpa – the former site of Linke’s Gypsum Processing plant.

It allows the company to have more room to move and also provides for the fleet to operate under one large roof in a more central location in the Barossa.

The couple say, the site is a rough diamond that had just been left sitting vacant for years.
