John Atze, Nuriootpa CFS and Tony Fotheringham, Sheaoak Log CFS were presented with 60 year service medals, whilst David Kroehn, Mount Pleasant CFS was awarded his 50 years badge and Neville Kies, Lyndoch CFS, 40 years.

All four gentlemen were humbled by the honour but agreed their service was never about gaining accolades.

“I like doing things for the community, that’s what it’s all about,” said John, a former captain of 21 years.

“And I enjoy the camaraderie between the brigades and CFS as a whole…. when we used to do competitions, we used to go all over the state and you’d meet all the brigades out in those areas.”
