Morning tea raised $2,800

Kapunda’s Wendy Brown, Brian Worrall and Dave Lomman with Karen Lanning, Kapunda Newsagency owner and Leanne Villanueva, Eudunda.

The Kapunda community came together to raise $2,800 for cancer research at Kapunda Newsagency’s annual Biggest Morning (all day) Tea last Thursday.

The table was filled with delicious sweets, coffee and tea, sandwiches and more created by community members, friends, family, staff and customers.

This is Kapunda Newsagency’s third year holding the morning tea, and over the past two years they have raised almost $6,000.

Whilst there were 60 community members that attended the morning with plenty more customers coming in throughout the day, businesses in the community together purchased 186 plates this year.

Plates were purchased for $5 each and personally delivered.

Miss Karen Lanning, Kapunda Newsagency owner, explained they started hosting the morning tea to contribute to Cancer Research. Working in the public eye they hear of so many people affected by cancer daily.

“Working here, we are privileged to hear so much about people’s lives. But that means we also hear the sad and tragic losses people suffer everyday so you can’t but feel touched. Having a large business premises and lots of amazing customers, we decided to give back,” said Karen.

“After raising in excess of $2,000 in the first year it proved we were onto something. We are just gobsmacked by the support.

“A lot of our customers tell us they used to do morning teas themselves over the years. But it is so nice to have a big one in the community they can come to or bake for without all the set up and clean up.”
