Honouring the ANZAC spirit

1 min read

The annual ANZAC Day clash between Nuriootpa and Angaston is set to be a classic showdown once again, with both football and netball players feeling a heightened sense of pride and emotion.

Across the valley, Tanunda will host Barossa District in another match on the day, as the region's sporting fraternity comes together to honour the spirit of ANZAC.

Trevor Klose, Tanunda RSL sub-branch president.

ANZAC medals will be presented to the A-Grade footballer and Senior 1 netballer whom umpires believe best demonstrate traits such as courage, team work and fair play.

At the Nuriootpa versus Angaston match, a footballer in each team will also be presented with a special medal named in honour of one of their own past club members who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

For Nuriootpa, it’s the Scott Smith Medal, named after a young Corporal who was killed on October 21, 2012, during operations in Afghanistan.

Angaston Football Club will present the Bob Christie Medal who was killed in action in the Middle East during WWII.
