This Friday, Barossa players in the SANFL Central District Football Club’s senior female team will be playing their first home game match against the Glenelg Tigers in Elizabeth.
A large group of Barossa women tried out for the new Central Districts women’s senior team, with many of those who tried out making this year’s squad.
Shaun Ribbon, Greenock resident and coach of the women’s side at Central Districts, believes the players all have shown strong skills that he believes will make them a strong contender in their first season.
The first match played by the Central Districts team was defeated by the West Adelaide Bulldogs 6.7.43 to 3.5.23. However, the SANFL season has only just started.
Nicola Biagi from Tanunda was named captain of the inaugural team, which was both a shock and an honour to the long-time football fan.
Joining Nicola from the Barossa are eight other players located from around the region. Already the girls have made a name for themselves in their respective sports and football before joining the Central Districts team.
