Tom’s ready for his New York challenge

Kapunda’s Tom Moten has been busy preparing his running shoes for the past year to head to New York City in the USA tomorrow.

The 26 year old will run in the massive New York City Marathon on Sunday, a 42.2 kilometre run and the biggest marathon in the world.

Tom, who is a former Southern Saints Football Club player, explained that he wanted to do the marathon to raise money for the Black Dog Institute.

Black Dog Institute is about understanding, preventing and treating mental illness.

It is close to Tom’s heart after losing some close friends and family to suicide, which he thinks is a big issue in country areas.

He was able to enter into the marathon through  an Australian travel company because he was raising money for a charity.

The New York City Marathon will be Tom’s first ever marathon and until this year he hasn’t done any competitive long distance running.
