Liam finishes season on a high

In his last lawn bowls commitment for the season, Nuriootpa’s Liam Buckley has come home tasting success from the 2017 Multi Disability National Championships.

Held at the Raymond Terrace Bowling Club in New South Wales, Liam participated in the triples, pairs and singles competitions.

Liam was off to a good start in the triples competition, with a 42-4 placing him in the semis.

He was just beaten in the final and came away with a silver medal – an experience which put in him good stead for the remainder of the competition.

Bowling on the second and third days lead to further success for Liam, who won gold 18-9 in pairs.

But it was on the last day where Liam faced his biggest challenge yet as he played the singles competition.

“That was by far the hardest game of the week,” said Liam.

“I was up against a bloke who is currently in the Commonwealth squad and I just beat him.”

While there was plenty of competition on the green, Liam said the comaraderie after the games was also a great part to the competition.

Having known most of the competitors, Liam was pleased to be able to bring home 2 gold and a silver as a state player.

“It was good to represent SA again… it has been a while,” said Liam.
