Jake’s living the dream

For years, Nuriootpa’s Jake Jones has balanced work as he follows his dream to become a professional drifter.

And now the 28 year old is “living the dream” as he concentrates solely on the motorsport of drifting which includes a trip to China and Japan in June.

Speaking to The Leader in his first week of unemployment, Jake said it felt right to leave his job of 11 years and pursue something he’s always dreamt of.

It was a big call for the qualified electrician, particularly with vintage still going, but Jake said he didn’t want to look back and think “what if”.

With the engine sitting on a hoist, Jake is currently working on his BMW M3, making sure it is ready to feature in the 10/10 Matsuri at Mallala Motorsport Park next Saturday.

He had hoped to be in China, where he would be showcasing a new car for a major car brand, but those plans have been put on hold.

“It was going to be amazing to be able to travel and get paid for it,” said Jake.

“It’s what I want to do… my dream really to be paid to drift.”

Jake said it was disappointing that the plans had been postponed but it has given him a chance to look at other opportunities.
