Kapunda – the only home for Kidman Collection

The historic Kidman Collection could be a permanent fixture in Kapunda if Mayor Bill O’Brien has his way.

The Light Regional Council Mayor called a meeting last week and along with Cr. Deane Rohrlach and Mr Terry Ryan, they are spearheading a movement to have the exhibition returned after originally hosting its official opening at the Kapunda Gallery back in 2014.

“It’s a fantastic exhibition put together by Christo Reid who is the great-grandson of Sir Sidney Kidman,” said Mayor Bill.

With the exhibition’s Australian tour now complete, Mayor Bill said it was time to look at what he calls “a big vision” for the town of Kapunda and take advantage of this rare opportunity to permanently house the historically significant collection which has strong connections to the area.

“We are pretty keen to find a working party and progress this, even to the point of considering an interpretive centre with Mary McKillop; the Mine and the Kidman Collection in one.

“In the interim, we want to secure the collection, even if it’s only part thereof, by getting it here and getting it on display somewhere because our big vision might take a little longer!”
