Marnie’s passion for painting

Artist, Marnie Wark Gilder of Angaston is in high anticipation as she prepares new and exciting pieces for her exhibition in November.

Marnie studied as a graphic designer at University, receiving a Bachelor in Design and attended Adelaide’s Central School of Art.

Despite having a job in Sydney and Italy as a designer, Marnie decided that her passion was painting.

“I made the move to become a full time artist.

“I came back to Australia and started painting while working as a designer,” said Marnie.

After building up a body of work Marnie began arranging exhibitions.

“I was lucky they were successful, which launched me into renting a space in Adelaide, getting a studio and getting a body of work together,” she said.

Over the last seven years Marnie has taken a break from exhibiting after getting married, having a family and until recently, living in regional Victoria.

“I found that we were a little more isolated in that location,” she said.

Marnie embraced the isolation of regional Victoria by creating the marniegilder.com brand which allowed her to create screen printings within her own home studio and post them all over the world. It provided Marnie with the flexibility to continue creating art, whilst raising her children.
