Maggie’s honorary doctorate

Barossa’s own Maggie Beer AM has received an honorary doctorate from the University of SA.

The much loved cook, author and television personality was honoured last Friday at the Adelaide Convention Centre during the university’s graduation ceremony.

“I was just over the moon!” a very excited Maggie told The Leader on Monday.

“It was an amazing day and even more amazing for having taken my four grandchildren along and the fact they were as chuffed as I was.

“I know they were really, really happy…. It was so important to me to have them there and be so excited for me.”

The 2010 Senior Australian of the Year and 2011 South Australian of the Year was guest speaker at this year’s graduation ceremony and offered an encouraging message to the more than 350 graduates in attendance.

“There are so many doors to go through in life and having proven now they have the ability, they also have the responsibilty to use it well,” she said.
