A big day in the kitchen

A team of volunteers came together in the kitchen on Sunday for the first Kind Hearted Kitchen cook-up for 2016.

Co-ordinated by Ruby Stobart and Rachael Braunack, the volunteers rolled in from 6 a.m. to cook up 534 meals which will be frozen and distributed throughout the community through Lutheran Community Care, Nuriootpa and Cross Roads Community Centre, Tanunda.

Boston beans, chicken curry, chicken cassoulet, meatballs in tomato sauce, mushroom soup, zucchini and bacon soup, lamb shanks, apricot kuchen and a sponge top fruit bake were delivered to the outlets on Monday with the help of Mark McNamara and Jen Lawson.

Ruby and Rachael acknowledged the efforts of all volunteers and those who donated “glorious food” including Mehl sourdough, zucchinis from Stan from Senior Citizen’s Village, plenty of glorious tomatoes, preserved apricots from Janice Dahlitz and so much more lovely produce.

The not for profit community group started in June last year cooking delicious meals to help the wider community out when they need it most.
