Remembrance Day – Lest we forget

Today is Remembrance Day and for Nuriootpa RSL president, Mr Peter Schultz and  his mother, Eileen, 11. a.m. on the eleventh day of the eleventh month will always hold special meaning.

“It goes back to dad and the passion he had for the country. I grew up with it,” Peter said.

“On Remembrance Day we remember everybody. We consider Legacy, the old people, the youngsters – the ones we are sending out now.  We are losing a lot of our World War II men now and in my case, we are starting to lose the people we served with in Vietnam.”

Eileen is a legacy widow and is a founding member of the Barossa and Light Legacy Widows’ Club which has been going for 40 years.

The 90 year old Tanunda mother of four is often found selling poppies in support of war veterans’ homes, the ex services’ welfare bureau, the Darby and Joan Cottages and the RSL Hospital visitation scheme.
