Tour deLight showcases learning in light electorate

Over 50 local community, civic, faith, business and education leaders participated in a tour of the Light Electorate on Saturday to discover the “learning” opportunities available in the area.

They were joined by former Governor and current Chancellor of the University of Adelaide, Rear Admiral the Honourable Kevin Scarce AC CSC RAN (Rtd), his wife Liz and the Honourable Gail Gago, Minister for Employment, Higher Education and Skills.

The bi-annual tour is an initiative of the Local Member of Parliament Mr Tony Piccolo, who was the tour guide for the day.

Mr Piccolo said the the Tour deLight series showcased different aspects of living, learning and earning in the Light Electorate.

“The 2015 tour was titled Learning in Light, while the 2013 tour focussed on food and wine, and the 2011 tour explored economic opportunities in the electorate,” he said.

“The tours were designed to ensure that local leaders were across the opportunities and challenges in Light.”

The 2015 tour included visits to the new Stretton Centre at Munno Para West, the Adelaide Soaring Club at Gawler Belt, the Roseworthy Campus of the University of Adelaide, Maintenance Techniques at Roseworthy and the Hewett Centre at Hewett.

The tour started at the Gawler Community and Recreation Centre with a presentation about the “Gawler Connect” project from Mayor Karen Redden.

At Munno Para West, Mayor Glenn Docherty talked about the role of the newly opened Stretton Centre, which aims to bring researchers, government and businesses together to promote economic growth and employment in the Northern parts of Adelaide.
