Community rallies for Anti-Poverty Week

More than 70 people have participated in the region’s Anti-Poverty Week event, Giant Jumble Bonanza hosted by Barossa Lutheran Community Care.

Lutheran parishes across the region rallied to donate a range of linen, clothing, bric-a-brac, toys and even furniture for the event held in the St. Petri Lutheran Church Hall, Nuriootpa.

Barossa Lutheran Community Care’s emergency relief co-ordinator, Ms Helen Walker said the day was well supported.

“It was a fantastic day overall,” she said.

“Over 70 people walked through the doors, leaving with bagsfull and cars full of items… some had two or three visits.”

The St. Petri Ladies’ Guild supported the day with coffee and cakes while a sausage sizzle in addition to a range of quiches from the Kind Hearted Kitchen added another element to the day.

“This is huge for our community and everything has been donated and it’s free,” said Helen.
