Retiring Pastor Vernon celebrates his last Meet ‘n’ Eat

Pastor Vernon Kleinig is retiring from his position at Zion Lutheran Church, Angaston in November and celebrated with friends at his last Meet ‘n’ Eat.

Held on October 7, the Meet ‘n’ Eat attendees congratulated and thanked both Pastor Vernon and his wife, Judie, for their contribution to the parish community.

A minister of nine years at Zion Lutheran Church, Pastor Vernon was actively involved in creating a good community spirit in Angaston.

Both Vernon and Judie started the Meet ‘n’ Eat get togethers nearly eight and a half years ago.

The idea was to bring the community together and to make friends within the parish.

Soon, the Anglican and Uniting Churches became involved, so the Meet ‘n’ Eat started to circulate between the three parishes.

Vernon said that the Meet ‘n’ Eats had good involvement from members of the parishes and was happy about it’s success.

Judie, who is the main planner of the Meet ‘n’ Eats, said that being on the committee has been exciting and always found it a pleasure working with volunteers to get the meals organised.

“The churches work well together to organise this, the people appreciate the meal and it makes community,” says Judie.
