New truck on the block

She’s big, shiny and beautiful and the most powerful addition to the Tanunda CFS in 21 years.

She’s “Tanunda 24”, the brand new fire truck that is the pride and joy of the town’s brigade and replaces old “Bessie” who members say served them well and will remain in service as a regional spare.

“The truck we had before was good, we looked after it well. We’re a bit sorry to see her go but technology has taken over,” said Tanunda CFS Captain Rick Kessner.

Carrying 2,400 litres of water, 400 more than the old model, the big engined beauty is built with the safety of firefighters at the forefront of its design.

“This is the latest…she has all the latest mod cons and lots of extra safety factors,” Cpt. Kessner said proudly.

Boasting a dual cab, the entire crew can now travel inside which wasn’t the case with the former vehicle. With a “cockpit” style interior, much can now be operated from within the safe, air conditioned confines of the turbo boosted four wheel drive.
