Gourmet Weekend Profile: Trevor and Megan Tervoert

What’s your best memory?

By far, my best memory is meeting my now wife, Megan, at Gourmet 1997. So, for us, the event has some extra special significance and we never miss one!

How do you determine your programme for Gourmet? Food,
wine or music?

All three are important to us! Being the Barossa, we know we’re going to get great wines wherever we go, so that part is easy! We are both lovers of all forms of music – we’ll tend to choose our programme based on what entertainment is on offer first and then look at the food menu.

What attracts you… big names (labels/chefs) or hidden treasures (venues/food)?

Atmosphere is also a big attraction for us. Somewhere that is warm and welcoming wins every time for us over a big name chef. That said, there’s so many great Barossa cooks and chefs, it’s hard to make a bad choice.

Favourite destinations?

In no particular order, Gibsons, Seppeltsfield and Chateau Tanunda are a few we never miss, but we always try and find something new to enjoy. It may be a new venue, food, wine style or music, but if it’s something different to us, we’ll give it a go.

Thirty Years, what has changed?

Although we’ve only experienced Barossa Gourmet since 1997, we think the event really has developed a maturity that it didn’t have 20 years ago. The vast majority of venues now would be attractive to any age group and more cater for families as well.
