Local businesses finalists for regional award

The Barossa Weintal Hotel Motel, Tanunda has been named a finalist in the ‘Regional Business’ award category in the South Australian Telstra Business Awards.

Kalleske Wines in Greenock have also been named a finalist in the ‘Regional’ and ‘Small’ business awards.

General Manager of the Barossa Weintal, Mr John Cowled is “wrapped” with the nomination. “It’s a fair reward to the staff for doing their job so well. The most important people in the business are the customers and the staff, because if you don’t have good people then you don’t have a good business.”

The awards recognise the influence small to medium businesses have on the economy. A rigorous judging process includes consideration of financial management, customer relations and marketing.

“Following nomination, we were asked to complete a detailed series of questions on the business, and on that basis we were short listed for judging,” John said.

“That was followed by an interview with two judges, during which we were asked questions about our business. A few weeks went by and we thought that we hadn’t made it. But then we got another call from Telstra saying that they would like to see our profit and loss statements, to check that the information we were providing matched the figures in writing.”

As well as the hard work of the staff, John also credits the Weintal’s nomination to being in such a “terrific part of the world.”
