First step to pedestrian safety in Kapunda

It’s official, The Beatles are coming to town!

Well no, not quite but a zebra crossing is and it’s getting Kapunda residents just as excited.

Light Regional Council Mayor Bill O’Brien said long standing laws that prevented rural towns from having such pedestrian crossings have finally changed and it’s great news for regional communities.

“It’s been a long journey….since 2012 when we put the motion to the Local Government Association,” said Mayor Bill.

“The code has been changed to allow for Zebra type crossings to be applied in regional areas as well as metropolitan areas and we’ll take the next step now.”

However, it is not known exactly how long before the crossing will be in place because the road is not Council owned and approval needs to be granted.

“More than likely there will be a consultation process to find out where the community would like to see this crossing and then hopefully we’ll have the approvals from the Department of Planning and Infrastructure to install the crossing.
