Heartache brings strong message to drivers

A Springton family has spoken of their heartache in losing a loved one and urge fatigued drivers to stop and rest this holiday period.

Janet Dijksman lost her daughter, Courtney to a road crash in October last year. The 23 year old was on her way home after finishing night-shift at the Gawler Health Service when she fell asleep and careered off the road just minutes from her Springton home.

Janet and Courtney’s twin sister, Brodie share a strong message this festive season in the hope what happened to Courtney doesn’t happen to anyone else.

“I am definitely supporting mum on this one… you just don’t even realise until it has happened to you and everything in your life changes,” said Brodie.

“Kids especially think they are invincible… I always thought it won’t happen to me and it happened to our group and we didn’t expect it to.”

The fatal crash and the weeks that followed seem like yesterday for the family, who credit friends and their wider family for their support in getting through the last 12 months.
