Locals helping locals

It is often said that disaster brings out the best in people and last Friday was proof again, when Eden Valley Institute opened its doors to the community.

Churches of the Barossa, in partnership with Disaster and Recovery Ministries SA, hosted a Community Cafe to give those affected by last month’s fire an opportunity to share their stories over a cuppa.

“We thought we’d provide a cafe where people could come for some human comfort,  a cup of tea and something to eat and be able to talk about what’s on their heart,” said Pastor Christine Manning, Barossa’s Uniting Church Minister.

“It’s important because in the aftermath of a disaster and after the community has poured out and given a lot of love and attention, people are left in isolation, especially in the bush.
