Shea-Oak Log fires burn through 125 hectares

Two consecutive fires tore through about 125 hectares of cropping land at Shea-Oak Log on Sunday.

The first fire, allegedly started by a harvester, broke out near Gomersal Road at about 9.30 a.m. and burnt within 100 metres of the historic Kingsford Homestead.

About 150 people were on the fire ground with 16 appliances, 30 farmers with farm fire fighting units and air support helping to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was brought under control after a few hours, with crews remaining on site until midnight to put out spot fires along the North Para River.
