Diener wins free trip to Dakar

Winning the Dakar Challenge in the Australasian Safari in late September has won Freeling’s Shane Diener free entry into the 2014 Dakar Rally.

Shane came third outright in the Australasian Safari in Western Australia; an incredible effort considering this was his first time finishing the race in six attempts.

The gruelling eight-day Safari is a marathon for off-road motorsport, spanning approximately 3,200 kilometres.

The Safari has been tough on Shane in the past, he tore his ACL last year and the engine of his Yamaha Wr450F failed the year before; this year only 70 out of 100 riders finished the race.

Free entry into the two-week 2014 Dakar Rally in January is a prize worth about 15,000 Euro, or about 22,000 Australian dollars.
