Sharee is keeping the community together

Ms Sharee Schmaal of Gomersal is a driving force behind her community, uniting neighbours and injecting life and laughter into the town through her hard work.

Sharee was crucial in reviving the Gomersal shed a few years ago, which has become the town hub for meetings, birthdays and regular Friday night drinks.

There’s always an event bringing the community together, whether it’s dressing up for the Ziegenmarkt, cleaning up the town or meeting at the shed for Christmas celebrations.

Sharee’s sense of pride for the town is contagious, and her home – gaining a reputation as Gomersal central – is often filled with neighbours dropping in for a chat.

“It is a great community where everyone knows each other,” Sharee said.

“There are so many little communities that disappear and we make an active effort to try to keep together.”
