Mayors urge yes vote for referendum

Two local mayors are asking residents to vote yes on a referendum to allow federal funding to be directed to councils.

The Barossa Council Mayor, Mr Brian Hurn and Light Regional Council Mayor, Mr Bill O’Brien have spoken of the importance of Federal Government funding in their regions.

Mr Hurn said local government needed federal assistance to provide services and facilities in the Barossa they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford, such as the Rex at Tanunda and the Tanunda to Gawler bike track.

“Local Government needs this assistance to be able to provide services and facilities in our district we would be unable to provide otherwise,” Mr Hurn said.

“All we want is for Federal Government, without any encumbrance, to be able to grant money to local government so they can proceed with projects.”
