One wheel wonders

It’s not uncommon to see people cycling around town, but there’s three Barossans who are turning heads as well as wheels.

For Tanunda brothers, Tirryn and Brandon Nankivell and Springton teen, Ebony O’Dea, a unicycle is their preferred mode of transport and they’re out to smash public perception that unicycling is just a circus act for clowns.

And with a bag of titles won at last month’s National Australia Street/Flatland Extreme Unicycling competitions, it’s clear these athletes are aiming well beyond the big top.

Held in Sydney on April 20-21, the trio entered Street, where riders use skatepark obstacles to perform tricks and Flatland.

Riders are given two minutes to perform tricks, with the top three battling for supremacy in a tightly contested final. They also competed in High Jump and Long Jump for their categories.
