Confidence boost for Tanunda rider

Tanunda rider, Ivan Long is heading into one of the country’s biggest desert races with a renewed confidence.

Ivan claimed a back-to-back win at the Baroota 400 Desert Race against a handful of national champions and factory riders last weekend.

The win has boosted his confidence for the National Finke Desert Race next month, where he will compete against the nation’s best riders for $10,000 prize money.

“It was a pretty big thing to come to Baroota and beat all of the factory riders,” Ivan said.

“I haven’t actually stepped up to that level before so it was definitely a career highlight.”

The Baroota 400 is a 250km desert race on a fast and open track across sandy dunes, woops and banked-up berms.

Ivan worked hard against the 50 competitors, even finishing 33 seconds faster than anyone on the track during the two-lap prologue on Saturday.

“It was a massive achievement. It was a bit of a shock to be able to beat guys at the level where they are getting paid to do it.”
