Medal honours fallen soldier

Nuriootpa Rover Football Club will present the inaugural Corporal Scott James Smith medal in tomorrow’s ANZAC day A grade match against Angaston.

Club president, Mr Clayton Scott said two medals will be presented by the club on the day.

“Nuriootpa Football Club will present the ANZAC Medal and Corporal Scott James Smith Medal, to honour the ANZACs who served our nation, remembering those who fell in battle and those who returned from defending our country,” said Clayton.

“And remembering Cpl Scott Smith as a valued player during his time at our club. He knew many of our current players, and (the medal) highlights his commitment to leadership whilst he served in the Australian Army and the sacrifice he made in serving our nation.”

Cpl Smith died while on duty in Afghanistan last year and was a member of the Special Operations Task Group. He was from the Special Operations Engineer Regiment based at Holsworthy Barracks in Sydney.
