Young citizen loyal to her town

At 18 years of age, Kapunda’s Felyka Gauci is taking advantage of every opportunity that comes her way.

It is this attitude that has earned her Light Regional Council’s Young Citizen of the Year award.

“I enjoy doing things and if given the opportunity, you should to it otherwise, when you get older and can’t do it anymore, you’ll regret it,” Felyka said.

Felyka stepped out of her comfort zone while studying at Kapunda High School, putting her hand up for the Duke of Edinburgh award, which she completed last year.

Through the programme, she kayaked, line danced and even travelled to Panama to experience a different culture.

Not only has she been experiencing new things, Felyka has also been serving Kapunda in many ways, saying the town meant a lot to her.

“It’s my town and my home, being a part of it is important.”

She is a long-time volunteer at Out of School Hours Care at Kapunda Primary School, has been a driving member of her Student Representative Council and most important to her, she has been planning a reinvigoration of Dutton Park’s animal enclosure.
